Dear Neighbors,
Here it is already, mid-July, so we thought we’d give you a 3 month update on our building project.
We broke ground on May 8th, and since then we have:
a) Removed most underground fuel tanks (they will be moved inside as part of the project.) b) Installed temporary backup power to the building c) Completed our asbestos abatement d) Demolished areas inside and outside the building, including the kitchen, downstairs bathrooms, closets and old offices. e) Removed old, non-functional HVAC units and replaced with new f) Begun the building of the new driveway to make room for the extension of the building g) Disconnected the vehicle charger during the driveway construction. This should be back in service in two months.
The construction fence will be adjusted as the project progresses, and we plan to remove the sections across from the North Star as work on the driveway is completed.
Next comes excavation for the foundation footings on the right side of the building as you look from Westchester Avenue, and more work on the road/driveway.
We hope the amount of inconvenience has been minimal for our residents. The old adage about eggs and omelets applies, but we are doing our best to minimize disruption.
On the plus side for residents, we have recently finished repairs on 6 of our dry hydrants at various water sources around town. This means we now have more readily accessible water from ponds and lakes to draw from if we face a fire. This is a part of our regular schedule of repair and maintenance.
With hopes for a happy summer,
The Pound Ridge Fire District. |
